The 'Nashville' actor had played the role of Theo in previews of the classic Stephen Sondheim and George Furth production before COVID-19 pandemic shut down the Great White Way.

AceShowbiz - "Nashville" star Kyle Dean Massey has pulled out of his role in musical comedy "Company" ahead of its Broadway return as he prepares to become a first-time father.

The actor had played the role of Theo in previews of the classic Stephen Sondheim and George Furth production last year (2020), before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the shutdown of the Great White Way.

Producers have since announced the "Company" revival, starring Katrina Lenk and Patti LuPone, will be back onstage at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theater on December 20, ahead of an official opening on January 9. However, Massey won't be part of the line-up.

Explaining his reasoning to fans in an Instagram Story post, Massey admitted he was "very sad about withdrawing" from the production, but added, "I will be getting something pretty spectacular in return."

"I loved getting to work with the entire group of creatives, actors, musicians and crew," he continued. "But as you may be aware, [husband] Taylor [Frey] and I are expecting our first child this fall and I want to be 100% present for that."

Massey and Frey, who wed in 2016, announced they will become parents to a baby girl born via a surrogate in April. On Father's Day, the 39-year-old actor celebrated his husband with a loving Instagram post.

Along with a photo of his husband, Massey wrote in the caption of the post, "On Father's Day this year, I celebrate my own father - but also this guy: who is destined to be one of the world’s greatest dads to our little girl on the way."
