In a new ad campaign supporting the retired executive, the 'Family Affair' singer lists his upbringing and the fact that he was raised by a single mother as reasons why he is the best choice.

AceShowbiz - Mary J. Blige has thrown her weight behind Ray McGuire as he fights to become the next mayor of New York City.
The "Family Affair" singer appears in a new ad, in which she describes McGuire as the best choice because of his upbringing, noting he was raised by a single mother.
"He understands the struggle of so many New Yorkers, because I’m a woman with a single parent mother who's seen it all," Blige says. "He understands."
"He is the businessman with the business plan... He's not about the look. He's about the grind. He cares about black and brown people getting ahead and children and women."
A retired executive, McGuire first announced his run with a splashy ad narrated by his pal Spike Lee. His supporters include LL Cool J, Jay-Z, Naomi Campbell and P. Diddy.
Ray is up against Shaun Donovan, current frontrunner Eric Adams and Maya Wiley, who is getting a big boost from The Strokes this weekend - the band is taking their support for the wannabe New York City mayor to the stage for the Big Apple's first full-capacity show in over a year.
The group hosted a virtual fundraiser for the mayoral candidate last month (May 2021) and now Julian Casablancas and his bandmates are set to play an in-person gig to raise cash for her campaign at Irving Plaza on Saturday, June 12, with all proceeds benefitting Wiley's run to become the Big Apple's first woman mayor.
She also has the support of actors Chris Evans and Gabrielle Union ahead of the mayoral elections on June 22.
