AceShowbiz - Jeff Bezos has set the date for his first adventure into space, when he and his brother Mark travel onboard the maiden voyage of the New Shepard in July.

The billionaire businessman will travel to space in the six-seater spacecraft made by his company, Blue Origin, on July 20, just a couple of weeks after he steps down as Amazon CEO. He will be joined by his brother Mark.

Bezos shared the news in a video post on Instagram on Monday, June 7, telling his followers, "Ever since I was five years I've dreamed of traveling to space, on July 20th, I will take that journey with my brother. The greatest adventure, with my best friend."

Bezos, the world's richest man with a net worth of $187 billion, will travel towards space in the crewed flight, to a point 60 miles above Earth. The journey will reportedly take just 11 minutes.

Meanwhile, members of the public are currently bidding to win a seat on the New Shepard, alongside Bezos, with the current highest bid being $2.8 million (£1.9 million), reported Variety. The bidding concludes with a live online auction on 12 June.

The winning bid amount will be donated to Blue Origin's foundation, Club for the Future, whose mission is to inspire future generations to pursue careers in STEM and to help invent the future of life in space.
