President Siddharth Roy Kapur thanks Excel Entertainment for playing 'a pivotal role in securing the vaccine', and Mehboob Production for very generously offering complimentary use of its Studios.

AceShowbiz - Officials at the Producers Guild of India are set to launch a wide-scale coronavirus vaccination drive. Beginning June 1, they will launch a wide-scale coronavirus vaccination drive for members and associated production crews.

Organizers hope the camp at Mehboob Studios in Mumbai will boost the country's mission of attaining universal vaccination and provide for safer shooting once production returns.

Cases have been dropping gradually over the last two weeks to below 200,000 confirmed cases per day, dramatically down from the peak in May, when 400,000 cases were being reported per day.

While there is no firm date for the film and TV industry in Mumbai to resume production, many hope it could come as soon as July.

"An activity of such importance and magnitude cannot be carried out single-handedly and we are extremely grateful for the support we have received to make this possible," Siddharth Roy Kapur, president of the Producers Guild of India, told Deadline.

He thanked Excel Entertainment, who "played a pivotal role in securing the vaccine", and also Mehboob Production, "who very generously offered complimentary use of the spacious Mehboob Studios."

"We are happy that we are able to provide this facility to our members, their employees and the cast and crew of their productions as we work to get the industry back on its feet again in the weeks ahead."

The announcement came a little over one month after Indian actress Priyanka Chopra appealed to the public for donation in response of her home country's battle with its worst COVID-19 crisis." Over the past month, we have seen the sudden rise and ravaging effects of COVID-19 as it's blazed an unrelenting path across India," she said in an Instagram video.

"Even as the medics learn more about the virus, the threat continues to loom," the wife of Nick Jonas continued. "We're appealing to you all to contribute to the healthcare system, which is at a breaking point right now. It's a humble request. Please contribute to our fundraiser on GiveIndia. Because unless everyone is safe, no one is safe."
