The 'Mystic River' actor joins forces with the City of Los Angeles to run a pop-up drive-through testing center for covid-19 amid the global pandemic.

AceShowbiz - Sean Penn is joining the fight against coronavirus in Los Angeles by helping to run a testing centre.

The 59-year-old Oscar winner and his non-profit, CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort), have opened a pop-up location in East L.A. that offers screenings for the virus.

"Thank you @SeanPenn and volunteers from CORE who are partnering with us and running a COVID pop-up testing location in East LA," Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Jeff Gorell posted on Twitter earlier this week.

According to the organisation's official website, the "Mystic River" star is "working in partnership with the City of Los Angeles to promote safe and efficient COVID-19 testing to the vulnerable populations in Los Angeles."

The drive-through testing clinics will be available to those who pre-qualify as "high risk."

Penn started CORE as a response to the deadly 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
