Before being transferred to the maximum-security jail, the disgraced movie mogul shared his time between Rikers Island's medical unit and New York's Bellevue Hospital due to heart problems.

AceShowbiz - Harvey Weinstein is to be transferred to New York State prison from Rikers Island jail.

The disgraced movie mogul, who was sentenced to 23 years in prison earlier this month, following convictions for rape and sexual assault, is being moved to the Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill, 60 miles north of New York City, his spokesman told Variety on Wednesday, March 18.

Since his conviction, Weinstein has shared his time between the jail ward at New York's Bellevue Hospital and Rikers' medical unit, as he has complained of heart problems, undergone surgery to remove a blockage, and suffered a fall.

According to Variety, his team have asked for him to be housed at Fishkill because it has full medical facilities, but it is not clear if he will stay there to serve his sentence or be transferred elsewhere at a later date.

Weinstein also faces four charges of rape and sexual assault in Los Angeles, and Los Angeles District Attorney's office staff have begun extradition procedures to get him tried in the state. However, the Los Angeles court system is closed for all but the most essential cases due to the coronavirus crisis.

The former Miramax chief is also facing civil suits from his alleged victims, including a new sexual assault and battery suit brought in Los Angeles by an actress who accused him of coercing her into having sex with him in 2014 by teasing her with a potential role in a film - and then allegedly claiming she would be blacklisted in Hollywood if she refused.
