The 'Carnival Row' star admits he went celibate for months to figure out the meaning of serious relationship before meeting Katy Perry, but doesn't think that 'it was advisable.'

AceShowbiz - Orlando Bloom won't recommend men to stay celibate. A little over a year after getting engaged to Katy Perry, the actor known for his portrayal of Legolas in "The Lord of the Rings" film series revealed that he abstained from sex for six months before meeting his now-pregnant fiancee, but insisted it wasn't "healthy."

During an interview with The Sunday Times, the 43-year-old Hollywood star revealed that he went celibate to figure out the meaning of serious relationship. After sticking to it for six months, however, he admitted, "It was insane. I don't think it's healthy." He further added, "I don't think it was advisable. You have to keep it moving down there."

On what prompted him to go celibate, the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor confessed, "I wasn't happy." He went on to reveal that his professional surfer friend Laird Hamilton advised him to abstain from sex. "Laird said, 'If you want to be serious about a relationship, go celibate for a few months and figure it out,' " he dished.

"It takes away the idea of going to a party and thinking, 'Who am I going to meet?' I was suddenly, like, 'Oh, I can have a relationship with a woman that is just friends,' " the ex-husband of Miranda Kerr continued. He added that his initial plan was to do it for three months, but he extended the period because "I was really enjoying the way I was relating to women, and to the feminine within myself."

In the interview, the "Carnival Row" star also explained why he stayed away from pornography. Noting that "porn is super-disruptive to your sex life, to your libido," he stated, "They've done the studies, they can't find any kids who don't watch it. When you watch multiple people at multiple times in one evening, how is your actual real-life partner going to match up? It's just so destructive."

Speaking of his relationship with Perry, Bloom recalled their first meeting at the Golden Globe Awards in 2016. "We actually hung out and connected," he shared his impression of the 35-year-old singer. "She's very surprising. She's witty and smart and intelligent. She's charismatic, but she's direct, too, and this dynamic was intriguing to me."

When talking about Perry's recent announcement that they are expecting their first child together, the father of one gushed, "This kind of joy isn't something you can put into words - or really wrap your head around." He elaborated, "Obviously, we've known for a long time before going public. As you can imagine, it's such an incredibly precious, private, yet commonplace moment to be sharing with the world. The whole family is over the moon."
