Despite his battle with his hearing loss condition, the 'Power of Love' singer pushes through as he prepares to release a new album with backing band Huey Lewis and the News after 19 years.

AceShowbiz - Rocker Huey Lewis is "almost deaf" when his battle with hearing loss condition Meniere's disease is at its worst.

The "Power of Love" star was forced to scrap a string of tour dates in 2018 due to complications linked to the chronic condition, which can cause vertigo and tinnitus, and he was urged to take a break from the road or risk losing his hearing for good.

Lewis followed his doctor's orders, but he refused to let the diagnosis put an end to his music career, and the singer is now preparing for the release of "Weather", his first new album with backing band Huey Lewis and the News in 19 years.

However, the 69-year-old admits his inner ear issues are still not great, and every day is different.

"My hearing fluctuates episodically," he tells The Associated Press. "Usually it's only bad for a week. But, I mean, really bad, where I'm almost deaf. And then it gets like it is now, which is just sort of bad. But I can't seem to stabilise."

Lewis, who previously admitted the diagnosis had him contemplating suicide, is trying to keep his mind off his hearing woes by staying creative and maintaining a positive mindset, because he knows his health troubles could be far worse.

"I try and stay creative," he says. "I also remind myself I don't have cancer yet. There's many, many people worse off than me so it's important to be thankful for just everything I have."

"Weather" is due to hit retailers on Valentine's Day, February 14.
