'Bad Boys for Life' Soars Over 'Dolittle' at the Box Office

The third 'Bad Boys' movie is expected to make $68 million over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend in North America, and surpasses the $100 million mark globally.

AceShowbiz - "Bad Boys for Life" is flying high atop the North American box office in its opening weekend (January 17-19).

The third movie in the franchise, which stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, is expected to make $68 million (£52.3 million) over the Martin Luther King Jr. extended holiday weekend in the U.S. Globally, the action film will surpass $100 million (£77 million) after the weekend. According to reports, a fourth instalment is already in the works.

Coming in a distant second is "Dolittle", which stars Robert Downey Jr. in the poorly-reviewed reboot of the story of the famed doctor and vet who talks to animals. The film is expected to earn $30 million (£23.1 million) over the long weekend, well below expectations.

Director Sam Mendes' acclaimed First World War film, "1917", which is nominated for 10 Oscars, follows in third with $27 million (£20.7 million). Rounding out the top five are "Jumanji: The Next Level" and "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" with $9.5 million (£7.3 million) and $8.4 million (£6.5 million), respectively.
