Months after Truett Foster McKeehan passed away suddenly, the 'I Just Need U.' crooner explains that the track started as getting some of his thoughts and feelings about losing his firstborn.

AceShowbiz - Christian rapper tobyMac has released a new song to honour his late son, months after the 21-year-old musician's shocking death.

Truett Foster McKeehan passed away suddenly at his home in Nashville, Tennessee in October (2019) and now his father has memorialised his memory in touching new track "21 Years", which reached listeners on Friday, January 10.

"What started as getting some of my thoughts and feelings about losing my firstborn son down on paper, ended up a song," TobyMac, real name Kevin Michael McKeehan, wrote on Twitter a day ahead of the song's release. " '21 Years' is a song I never wanted to write. I hope it's for someone out there, or maybe it's just for me."

TobyMac, 55, also expressed how difficult it has been to process his grief in the past few months since his son Truett's passing.

"The last couple of months have been the hardest I've ever faced. Thank you for the love and support," he tweeted to fans. "Part of my process has always been to write about the things I'm going through, but this went to a whole new level."

Truett, whose stage name was Shiloh, was laid to rest in Franklin, Tennessee shortly after his death.

TobyMac shares four other children with his wife Amanda.
