Through a social media post, husband Kevin Sutherland shares that the 56-year-old singer-songwriter passed away peacefully in her sleep after a two-year struggle with the disease.

AceShowbiz - Singer-songwriter Kim Shattuck has died, aged 56.

The Muffs star lost her battle with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) on Wednesday, October 2, according to her husband, Kevin Sutherland.

"This morning the love of my life Kim passed peacefully in her sleep after a two year struggle with ALS," he wrote on social media. "I am the man I am today because of her. She will live with all of us through her music, our shared memories and in her fierce creative spirit."

"I love you forever my Kimmy. Thank you for sharing your life."

Her death comes two weeks before The Muffs were set to release their first album in five years. It is not clear how Shattuck's death will affect the plans.

Bandmate Melanie Vammen writes, "My heart is forever broken."
