Breaking his silence following Miley's announcement of their separation, the 'Hunger Games' star warns people not to believe every report on media outlets.

AceShowbiz - Liam Hemsworth has broken his silence after Miley Cyrus announced over the weekend that she and the Aussie hunk had called it quits after less than one year of marriage. The "Independence Day: Resurgence" star took to Instagram on Monday, August 12 to address swirling reports that surfaced following the official announcement.

"Hi all," he posted along with a photo of a picturesque beach. "Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward." Stressing that "this is a private matter," he noted, "I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false."

Liam was spotted earlier on Monday when he went out for a late-afternoon frozen yoghurt with his brother Chris Hemsworth. The 29-year-old actor has reportedly been holed up with his elder brother and Chris' family at his beach house in Byron Bay, in their native Australia.

However, Liam refused to comment when asked by a Daily Mail Australia reporter about the end of his marriage to Miley. "You don't understand what it's like," he reportedly told the journalist. "I don't want to talk about it mate."

Miley released a statement via her rep on Saturday to confirm their separation. "Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what's best while they both focus on themselves and careers... Please respect their process and privacy," the statement read.

While they were spotted on their last outing together in July, it's reported that they have been separated for months. According to TMZ, the former couple had been struggling with various issues. Miley reportedly wanted to go into therapy with her now-estranged husband to fix their relationship, but he allegedly refused it. "He didn't come close to meeting her half way," a source tells the site.

Meanwhile, a HollywoodLife.com source claims the pair drifted apart after the wildfires that destroyed their home in Malibu. "Then the fires happened, and their home and memories were destroyed. They almost felt that they had to rush to make new memories and rushed into marriage and started acting differently in their relationship that was actually working and didn't need any change because the way it was going was wonderful," the source details.

"They matured and changed with the tragedy and that is what grew them a apart," the source goes on explaining. "Liam is a family man and has always wanted children and was in it for the long haul and he really thought Miley was on the same track but after the fires and the rush to get married she then realized that she wanted more in her life and settling down wasn’t something she ever wanted."
