During an appearance on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon', the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' star explains what happened that led to the change in her appearance.

AceShowbiz - Dakota Johnson has admitted she's "really sad" that she's lost the distinctive gap between her front teeth.

The "Fifty Shades of Grey" actress is known for having a small space between her upper two front teeth, and in a video for Vanity Fair in 2017, even demonstrated how she could put various objects into the gap, including toothpicks, a credit card, a cherry stem, a twig, and cash.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted that the gap had apparently disappeared as she attended "The Peanut Butter Falcon" premiere in Hollywood earlier this month and, appearing on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Tuesday night (August 6), Dakota addressed the change in her appearance.

"First of all, the fact that this is a newsworthy event in our world right now is pretty shakakhan (A phrase used as an exclamation) to me," she laughed after host Jimmy Fallon asked her about it.

"I had a permanent retainer since I was like, 13, and it was just glued to the back of my teeth, and I was having a lot of neck problems recently so my orthodontist, she decided it would be a good idea to take it off and see if my jaw sort of expanded."

As for the results, Dakota explained: "It helped me, and my gap closed by itself. I'm really sad about it too. So, I'd really appreciate some privacy in this time. I have to deal with a whole new world of problems - getting food stuck in my tooth. Before it would just slide right through!".

The screen star didn't make any mention of her romantic life while on the show. However, it seems her relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is back on - following rumours that they'd split earlier this year. They were pictured frolicking on the beach during a break in the Hamptons, New York, during a romantic weekend away last month.
