AceShowbiz - Jealousy can drive people to do a lot of crazy things, and Ariana Grande has showed it off through her music video for "Boyfriend" featuring Social House. Released at midnight on Friday, July 2, the video sees the Nickelodeon alum getting jealous and violent when she watches her "boyfriend" talk to other women.
In the Hannah Lux Davis-directed visuals, Ariana is seen arriving at a party when she spots her love interest talking to another woman. Feeling jealous, she jumps on the woman and mercilessly attacks her, putting her in a chokehold. However, it appears that all of that is just her imagination as Ariana tries to brush it off and mingle with other partygoers.
Just when the "Thank U, Next" singer is able to calm herself down, she sees her love interest talking to a different woman. This time, she imagines herself shooting an arrow right to the woman's hand before raising her fist in celebration.
It turns out Ariana is not the only one who feels jealous because later on, when her love interest watches her get close to another man, he feels the urge to attack him. The music video ends with the two of them making out in the bathroom.
"Boyfriend" is the first single that Ariana released following her successful "Thank U, Next" album. Talking about the song with her fans on social media, the songstress said, "I feel like this song captures a common theme in the lives of so many people I know! People want to feel love but don't want to define their relationship & have trouble fully committing or trusting or allowing themselves to fully love someone, even tho they want to."
She continued, "We wanted to make something uplifting that captures that feeling of being afraid to take the leap & trust, being afraid of being hurt or feeling like you won't be enough for that person... but also how it feels to have a crippling crush on someone."
