'Power Book 2: Ghost', which will be the 'first of several' prequel series of the hit Starz crime drama, is set to continue the journey' of some of the show's 'most controversial characters.'

AceShowbiz - The final season of "Power" will be coming in two parts. Starz programming boss Carmi Zlotnik revealed at the TCA summer press tour on Friday, July 26 that the sixth and final season of the popular crime drama will air next month and next year.

The exec revealed that the first half of Courtney Kemp-created drama will premiere on August 25. The rest of the supersized last season, meanwhile, is scheduled to air in January 2020. The exec further said that there would be an aftershow, titled "Power Confidential", which would air following each of the final season's episodes.

Season 6 of "Power" will pick up with James "Ghost" St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick) seeking vengeance. His former drug partner and brother in arms must pay for the ultimate betrayal. Rocked to his core by the perfidiousness and cruelties of those he once called his family, Ghost devotes himself to one notion: Success is the best revenge, with all intentions of getting both.

Ghost aims to get even with Tommy (Joseph Sikora), get the Queens Child Project built to consecrate Raina's legacy, and finally achieve a thriving legitimate lifestyle with no criminal strings attached. Ghost's need to wrest satisfaction and happiness from this world by any means necessary -- is the most dangerous he’s ever faced. As the Feds grow closer to convicting him, Ghost must remain vigilant toward those wanting to take him down for his past criminal enterprises.

The show, which was praised as a "monster" by COO Jeffrey Hirsch, also stars Lela Loren, Naturi Naughton, Joseph Sikora, Michael Rainey Jr., Rotimi and La La Anthony.

In addition to that, Starz announced that a "Power" spin-off series is currently being developed at the network. "Power Book 2: Ghost", which will be the "first of several" prequel series, is set to feature Mary J. Blige.

According to Kemp, the new series would "continue the journey" of some of the show's "most controversial characters." Of her joining the spin-off, Blige, who made a surprise appearance during the presentation, said, "This is probably the most exciting thing that’s going to happen to me this year. I've been a fan of 'Power' since the very beginning and I want to thank Courtney Kemp and 50 Cent for starting this conversation with me."

The actress further showed her excitement in her latest Instagram update. Sharing a photo of herself, Kemp and Fiddy, she wrote in the caption, "This is POWER! #MJBTypeSummer."
