Rapper Tay-K Is Convicted of Robbery and Murder, Faces Up to 99 Years in Prison

The 19-year-old rapper, who is famous for his hit song 'The Race', is found guilty of murder for his role in a 2016 armed robbery that left a 21-year-old man dead.

AceShowbiz - Rapper Tay-K may spend the rest of his life in prison now. On Friday, July 19, the 19-year-old spitter and songwritter was officially convicted for his role in a 2016 armed robbery in Mansfield that left a 21-year-old man dead. According to NBC's Dallas-Fort Worth affiliate, Tay-K, whose real name is Taymor Travon McIntyre, now faces "between five and 99 years in prison."

Tay-K was only 16 when he committed the crimes. He and friends arranged a plan to burglarize Ethan Walker, which led to a fatal confrontation between the gunmen and Ethan and the death of Ethan. He pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery by threats, but pleaded not guilty to capital murder and to a separate count of aggravated robbery.

He was not found guilty of the more serious charge of capital murder, which would have carried a mandatory 40-year sentence. Latharian Merritt, the man who was accused of shooting Ethan, was sentenced to life in prison last year.

According to the local news outlet, Tay-K didn't show obvious emotion as he stood and listened to the verdict. The jury announced the verdict on Friday after deliberating on Thursday, following emotional testimony from the victim's mother.

Meanwhile, during the trial prosecutors called a number of Tarrant County jail officers who testified the Long Beach-born rapper has been a troublemaker, throwing wet toilet paper and making threats. When he was placed under house arrest until certification hearings were held, Tay-K cut his ankle monitor off and fled to San Antonio, Texas.

While on the run, he released his song "The Race", which later became a hit. He was apprehended by United States marshals in Elizabeth, New Jersey after three months on the lam on June 30, 2017, the same day he released the song online.

While on the run, on April 23, 2017, Tay-K allegedly robbed and fatally shot a photographer outside of a Chick-fil-A in San Antonio, Texas.
