'Bachelorette' Outcast Mike Johnson Could Be the First Black 'Bachelor'

The fan-favorite contestant, who was eliminated by Hannah Brown in week 7 of this season's 'The Bachelorette', is a contender to be the star of the next season of 'The Bachelor', says host Chris Harrison.

AceShowbiz - Mike Johnson may not win the heart of Hannah Brown on "The Bachelorette", but he's surely received a lot of love from viewers of the dating show. The 31-year-old portfolio manager has become a fan-favorite to be the next Bachelor, and host Chris Harrison has responded to the chatter.

Chris admits Mike has a great chance to star in the next season of "The Bachelor" and make history as the first black Bachelor on the reality series. "Of course he's a contender [for 'Bachelor']," the host tells PEOPLE. "How could he not be a contender with that smile? He's one of my favorite people we've ever had on the show."

Chris continues raving on Mike as saying, "He's a love of a man. I don't know him that well, and I consider him a really good friend. He's just a sweet guy. He gives the best hugs, the best smiles and the best advice." He goes on affirming, "He's just a really good man and yeah, of course he's a contender."

Responding to the support he's been getting, Mike admits, "I'm not going to lie, it's an awesome thing for people to feel that way." On the prospect of making history as the first black man and the first military veteran to become The Bachelor, the Texas native says, "I don't get pressure either way. It doesn't phase me. I mean, the most pressure I had was back in high school when I was playing football and I dropped the ball. Haven't had pressure like that since, so it's all good."

Mike has also received support from fellow "Bachelorette" contestants about being the next Bachelor. Dylan Barbour told ET after the taping of "The Bachelorette: Men Tell All" on Friday, July 12, "Mike's gonna be the Bachelor. Obviously. Mike is the Bachelor. Just look at him. He's great."

John Paul Jones agreed, adding, "I think it would be interesting to see Mike Johnson as the Bachelor. You know, he's a super charismatic, fun-loving guy. I think it could be interesting to see. I think it would be great to see you know the first African American bachelor. For sure."

Despite the support from fans and friends, Mike claimed he has not been approached by the show's producers about the gig. "I haven't spoken to no one about it," he said, before acknowledging his friends' support, "Yes, my homies from the show were speaking on it, and it's really cool to hear that."
