This arrives after it was announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have formally split from Prince William and wife Kate Middleton's joint charity, The Royal Foundation, to start their own.

AceShowbiz - Prince William turned 37 on Friday, June 21 and many people had sent the future king birthday messages. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are among those who sent their "lovely wishes" on the Duke's special day.

To celebrate the big day, the official account of Kensington Palace shared a photo of the Duke of Cambrigde flashing a bright smile. "Thank you everyone for your lovely wishes on The Duke of Cambridge's birthday!" the account wrote in the caption. Commenting on the post, Harry and Meghan wrote, "Happy Birthday to The Duke of Cambridge!"

This arrives after it was announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have formally split from Prince William and wife Kate Middleton's joint charity, The Royal Foundation, to start their own. "The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has today announced the conclusions of a review into its structure, and how it will best support Their Royal Highnesses with future charitable activity," said the palace in a statement on Thursday.

"Later this year, The Royal Foundation will become the principal charitable and philanthropic vehicle for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will establish their own new charitable foundation with transitional operating support from The Royal Foundation," the statement continued.

According to royal commentator Duncan Larcombe, the Sussexes' move indicates that the new parents are keen to "do things their own way." Larcombe went on saying to Fabulous Digital, "It does seem odd. Why separate when you are both backing the same causes? Whether this is a sign of a rift, this is certainly a sign of a division." He continued, "It is clear that Meghan and Harry were initially prepared to slot in under the wing of William and Kate but that's not how they feel a year on."

The charity was first established by Prince William and Prince Harry back in 2009. Kate joined them in 2011 after her and William's engagement was announced. So far, the charity has put its focus on wildlife conservation and mental health as well as supporting the armed forces and young people.

Explaining that the couples would focus on their own separate charitable endeavours, Larcombe added, "William's quite controlling, and he was in control when it was just the three of them, but now he's not. Meghan and Harry aren't going to be controlled by William. They are going to do it their way, and there is scope for them to do that."
