Ewan McGregor stars as adult Danny Torrance, who connects with a young girl, Abra Stone, over their psychic abilities when a cult of psychic vampires preys on innocent souls.

AceShowbiz - Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for "Doctor Sleep", an adaptation of Stephen King's 2015 sequel to his acclaimed novel "The Shining". Also serving as a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's 1980 iconic horror film, the upcoming movie continues the story of Danny Torrance, 40 years after his terrifying stay at the Overlook Hotel in "The Shining".

Ewan McGregor stars as adult Danny, an alcoholic struggling to suppress his gift of the shining. The teaser sees him starting to experience supernatural things that connect him to a young girl, Abra Stone (Kyliegh Curran), who possesses the same ability as him. As Danny tells Abra about this thing he calls "magic," the video also shows Rebecca Ferguson's Rose the Hat approaching a little girl in the woods before a group of adults ambush the terrified girl.

The teaser pays homage to Kubrick's movie with scenes featuring elevators gushing blood and Wendy Carlos and Rachel Elkind's haunting score. It also takes Danny back to Overlook Hotel, where he peeks through a splintered door with the word "Redrum" written on it.

According to the official synopsis, "Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the 'shine.' Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality."

"Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra's innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before-at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past."

"Doctor Sleep" is directed by Mike Flanagan, from his own screenplay based upon the novel by Stephen King. Flanagan explained Danny's state in the movie during a screening of the trailer in Los Angeles, "We pick up Dan in New Jersey and in the throes of his alcoholism, kind of right at rock bottom is where we meet him."

He continued, "He's nomadic, he's violent, he's crawled so far into a bottle that there doesn't seem to be an easy way out. It's really kind of a strange experience to meet your hero kind at their most awful version of themselves. Structurally, it's really fascinating, from a writing point of view. You kind of feel like, 'This is our hero, ladies and gentlemen, you're going to meet him puking.' So, yeah, we pick up Dan at the lowest point of his life, and, more than anything, this is a story about his redemption and trying to avoid repeating the same fate that his father had to deal with, outside of the hotel, just with his own addiction."

The supernatural thriller is set to be unleashed in the U.S. on November 8.
