The younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge and her husband James Matthews welcomed their first child, just hours after checking into the hospital.

AceShowbiz - Congratulations are in order for Pippa Middleton and James Matthews. The couple has officially become first-time parents after the 35-year-old socialite and author gave birth to their son on Monday, October 15 at St. Mary's Hospital in London.

"Everyone is delighted and mother and baby are doing well," a representative for Pippa has confirmed. The Daily Mail's royal correspondent Rebecca English additionally reported that the baby was delivered on October 15 at 1:58 P.M., just hours after she checked into the highly-renowned Lindo Wing. The baby weighed 8 lbs, 9 oz at the time of birth.

The baby's arrival has made Kate Middleton, the eldest of three Middleton children, a first-time aunt. Reacting to the happy news, Kensington Palace said in a statement on behalf of Kate and Prince William, "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are thrilled for Pippa and James."

Pippa still appeared in public three days before her due date when she attended the royal wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank on Friday, October 12. With her due date approaching, she was predicted to skip the most recent royal wedding, but she made it to the event with her husband. She dressed her baby bump in a dark green, midi length, long sleeve dress with matching fascinator. Pippa and the newlywed couple are indeed close enough that Eugenie and Jack attended her and James' 2017 wedding.

Pippa and James tied the knot on May 20, 2017 at St Mark's Church, at Englefield Estate, Berkshire, during when Kate's children Prince George and Princess Charlotte also served as page boy and bridesmaid, respectively. She confirmed her pregnancy in June this year through a column for Waitrose Kitchen magazine.

An avid fitness enthusiast, she shared how she had to adjust her exercise routine, "When I learned the happy news that I was pregnant, I realized I needed to adjust my four to five-day-a-week [fitness] routine." Unlike her sister who suffered Hyperemesis Gravidarum during her three pregnancies, she didn't suffer from morning sickness during her first trimester.
