The former 'Bachelorette' and 'Bachelor in Paradise' contestant is very optimistic about his next stint on the dating show franchise and hoping to get engaged by the end of his season.

AceShowbiz - Colton Underwood has been named the new Bachelor. The pro-football player, who competed for Becca Kufrin's heart in the 14th season of "The Bachelorette", will become the leading man in the upcoming 23rd season of "The Bachelor".

After getting eliminated in week 8 after hometown dates with Becca, Colton went on to appear in season five of "Bachelor in Paradise", but failed to find love again on national TV. He's optimistic about his next reality TV stint though, saying on Tuesday, September 4 on "Good Morning America", " 'Third time's a charm.' That's what they say, right? That's what I'm hoping for."

The 26-year-old hunk added that he's "very excited" about meeting with his potential future wife on the show. What he's "looking forward to most" is getting engaged by the end of his season, "and just getting married shortly after that."

As for what he's looking for in a woman, the free agent said, "You just have to be passionate about something...and be a good person." Pretty simple, right?

Colton previously dated Tia Booth, who appeared in season 22 of "The Bachelor" starring Arie Luyendyk Jr., during the filming of "Bachelor in Paradise". They, however, broke it off, and both left "Paradise" separate in the 5th week.

The former tight-end player for the Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers made sure that his "Bachelor" stint will be free from drama involving his ex-girlfriend Tia. "We are finally on the same page, for the first time in our relationship," he said, adding, "and we are just good friends."

A source tells E! News that Colton "was by far the safest pick" for the show. The source explains, "He's a virgin and he works in non-profit. He screams wholesome, middle America." The source adds, "I think, coming after Nick Viall and Arie Luyendyk, producers were keen to pick someone whose intentions would be viewed as sincere. No one wants another questionably shady guy."

Another positive point is that "he has the biggest social media following" out of all of Becca's finalists.

The new "Bachelor" season starring Colton will premiere in January 2019 on ABC.
