AceShowbiz - Actor Jonah Platt is set to don his cowboy boots and hat to star as country songwriting legend Dean Dillon in a new stage musical.
"Tennessee Whiskey The Musical: The Story of Dean Dillon" will follow the early years of the singer's life, chronicling his rise to fame and his struggles with addiction.
The play, a collaboration between the Country Songwriter Hall of Famer and writer, director, and producer Dewey Moss, will feature a string of Dillon's tunes, including "Ocean Front Property" and "The Chair", which he wrote for George Strait, and the title track, which became a hit for George Jones in 1983, reports Deadline.
"PUMPED for this project and honored to help tell the story of this songwriting legend," Platt wrote on Twitter. "I can only hope to one day grow a 'stache half as magnificent."

A launch date has yet to be set, but if the show goes well, Moss and Dillon, who has also written songs for Toby Keith and Kenny Chesney, among many others, plan to take the project to Broadway.
Platt, the older brother of Tony Award-winning actor Ben Platt, has previously starred in Broadway musical Wicked, and recently appeared in TV special "Jesus Christ Superstar: Live in Concert". His other screen credits include "Parenthood", "Curb Your Enthusiasm", and "The Office".
