AceShowbiz - Actress Kerry Washington is stepping into the future to star in a TV adaptation of sci-fi graphic novel "Old City Blues".

The "Scandal" star will take on a lead role in the new drama series, which is based on the 2011 story by Giannis Milonogiannis and is set in 2048, when high-tech criminals run the city of New Athens.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" filmmaker Gore Verbinski will take charge of the project, marking his TV directorial debut.

Kerry will also serve as an executive producer on the show, which will premiere on streaming service Hulu, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Old City Blues" is one of two new Hulu TV ventures for the actress, who bid farewell to "Scandal" earlier this year when the seventh and final season of the political drama aired - she has also teamed up with Reese Witherspoon to star in and produce a limited series adapted from Celeste Ng's "Little Fires Everywhere" bestseller.
