Eva Longoria to Produce Adaptation of Spanish Drama 'The Ambassador'

AceShowbiz - Eva Longoria is giving hit Spanish TV drama The Ambassador an English-language makeover for American audiences.

The Desperate Housewives star has teamed up with writer and former Empire and The Handmaid's Tale executive producer Ilene Chaiken to develop the pilot for network bosses at ABC.

The hour-long drama, which will be renamed The Ambassador, will focus on Roxanne Eagleton, the young third wife of a wealthy and well-connected U.S. Ambassador to France, who is appointed as her husband's replacement when he is killed in a freak boating accident.

"I'm so excited to be producing this show for @abcnetwork alongside the brilliant writer Ilene Chaiken (Empire)!!" the new mum told fans on Instagram. "This was a hit show in Spain and I'm excited to bring it to the States! #ProducerMode #BossLady #WorkingMama".

Longoria, who welcomed her first child, son Santiago, in June, will work on the show for her UnbelieEVAble Entertainment firm.

It isn't the first Spanish show Eva has optioned to adapt for U.S. viewers - she is also executive producing Grand Hotel, about a family that runs a top hotel.

Both original series were created by Ramon Campos for his company Bambu Productions.
