AceShowbiz - "Orange Is the New Black" star Vicci Martinez, who plays Daddy in season 6, confirmed that she's dating her co-star Emily Tarver, who portrays Correction Officer Artesian McCullough on the show. During an interview with The News Tribune, the 33-year-old singer-turned-actress revealed that she's also making music with her girlfriend.
"We are super in love," Martinez told the local newspaper from her hometown of Tacoma, Washington. "And we have a music group together. I've started to do music again. She's fulfilling my fantasy of doing duets together." The couple started making music and performing together in early 2018, but it's unknown when they started dating.
Back in June, the "Come Along" songstress took to her Instagram account to post a picture of her kissing Tarver on the latter's birthday. Tarver was seen smiling happily in the photo as Martinez embraced her from behind. "Happy Birthday to the woman of my dreeeeaaammmzzzz!!! Love? Unconditional. With you, I'm alive," the singer wrote in the caption. "Thank you for sharing your heart and your life and your joy and your funny and your everything!!! I love you #EmilyAnneTarverTheThird @emilytarver Ur my best friend."
Before meeting her girlfriend on the Netflix series, Martinez was known as a music performer since she was 16 and she has released her own albums. She gained fame after coming third on "The Voice" in 2011. However, in 2014-2015 she hit rock bottom and failed to reboot her career with her friends without a manager. The experience left her broke and she had to borrow money from her mother to pay her bills. "It really messed with my head and my heart," she said.
"Orange Is the New Black" casting director then found her on Google and asked her if she was familiar with the show. "Have I heard of 'Orange Is the New Black'? Are you kidding me? I watch that show religiously," Martinez recalled her reaction. "I love it. It's one of the my favorite shows." After that, the new actress sent an audition tape and they hired her to play Daddy.
