AceShowbiz - 20th Century Fox is revisiting one of its most beloved comedies, "Home Alone", with an R-rated twist. The studio is teaming up with Ryan Reynolds to produce a new comedy inspired by the 1990 film starring Macaulay Culkin.

The "Deadpool" actor will produce "Stoned Alone" through his Fox-based Maximum Effort production company, with Maximum Effort's George Dewey attached as executive producer. Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider write the script from an idea by Fox exec Matt Reilly.

Reynolds will also potentially star in the upcoming movie. Augustine Frizzell, who directed upcoming drama "Never Goin' Back" and teen drama pilot "Euphoria" for HBO, is on board to direct the comedy film.

According to Deadline which first reported the news, the story "centers around a twenty-something weed growing loser who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip. He makes the best of things by getting high. Paranoia sets in and he believes he hears someone break into his house. Turns out thieves have broken in. Fully stoned and fueled by paranoia, he tries to thwart the thieves and defend his castle."

Reynolds is credited as a producer on the "Deadpool" movies in addition to starring as the titular antihero. He lends his voice for the title character in upcoming film "Detective Pikachu", which is set to arrive on May 10, 2019 in the United States.

"Home Alone" starred Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, an 8-year-old boy who is mistakenly left behind when his family flies to Paris for their Christmas vacation. It was a global hit, grossing $476.7 million worldwide against a production budget of $18 million.

The sequel, "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York", was released in 1992 and collected a total of $359 million worldwide. Three more sequels followed in 1997, 2002 and 2012 with different casts and storylines, but failed to repeat the success of the first two movies.
