AceShowbiz - A vintage guitar previously owned by the late Tom Petty is going up for auction.

The 1965 Gibson SG electric guitar was used by the rock icon while on tour with Bob Dylan in 1986, but now it's being put up for sale by his friend, Norm Harris, to raise funds for charity.

Harris, who bought the axe from the singer years ago, is also offloading one of Petty's top hats via the Heritage Auctions sale on 21 July.

A portion of proceeds will be donated to homeless charity The Midnight Mission, and the Tazzy Animal Rescue Fund, both based in California, reports The Associated Press.

Petty died in October (17), aged 66.
