Even though he is proud of his work, the filmmaker admits he is upset that the movie didn't meet expectations.

AceShowbiz - Filmmaker Ron Howard is proud of Solo: A Star Wars Story despite its poor performance at the box office.

The film has earned $15.1 million (£11.3 million) on the North American box office in its third weekend and according to reports, it is unlikely it will pass the $200 million (£149.3 million) mark domestically. If it does not, it will be the lowest grossing Star Wars film on the North American box office.

Earlier this week, ends June 10, one fan took to social media to praise the film, which stars Alden Ehrenreich and Woody Harrelson, writing, "I've been reading so many theories as to why 'Solo' hasn't been doing so well at the box office - sad to say, some SW fans are snubbing Solo b/c (because) they're still upset over Last Jedi. If so, they're missing out & (and) punishing a good film for something not its fault (sic)...".

And on Sunday, June 10, Howard responded, revealing he is upset the movie didn't meet expectations.

"I'm proud of #SoloAStarWarsStory and the cast & crew worked hard to give fans a fun new addition.," he wrote on Twitter. "As a director I feel badly when people who I believe (& exit polls show) will very likely enjoy a movie... don’t see it on a big screen w/great sound".

The 64-year-old stepped in to take charge of the film after original directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord exited the project and last month he revealed he was expecting his take on the Han Solo origin story to be controversial.

"When you have really fervent fans, dedicated fans, it's a little bit like if you love sports or a certain kind of a television show, you get to be emotional about it...," he told Press Association.
