The actor, who played Roseanne Barr's onscreen husband Dan Conner on the sitcom, says that 'everything's fine' after ABC canceled the revived show due to Barr's racist tweet.

AceShowbiz - John Goodman has responded to the furore surrounding his Roseanne co-star Roseanne Barr by joking he wasn't going to win an award for the cancelled TV show anyway.

In a video obtained by Entertainment Tonight, the 65-year-old actor spoke out for the first time since Roseanne's cancellation, insisting he'd rather stay quiet.

The Big Lebowski actor, who played Roseanne's onscreen husband Dan Conner on the sitcom, said he would "rather say nothing than to cause more trouble" in the clip, reportedly filmed at a car repair shop in New Orleans, Louisiana.

TV network ABC cancelled the revived '90s show after Barr's racist tweet about former President Barack Obama staffer Valerie Jarrett, in which the comic compared the respected advisor, who is African-American, to an ape.

When questioned about the fallout Goodman chose not to comment directly on the 65-year-old's actions but assured fans that "everything's fine", insisting he was completely oblivious to the controversy.

"I don't know anything about it," he told the news outlet. "I don't read it (Twitter)."

And when the Monsters Inc. voice star was questioned about his thoughts on the show no longer being eligible for Emmys consideration, he was similarly unbothered.

"I wasn't gonna get an Emmy anyway," sighed the star, who has been nominated seven times for his role as Dan. "I've been up there (11) times already, and if I didn't get one, I'm not gonna get one."

Some disappointed fans have been calling for a spin-off featuring the cast without the disgraced actress, but Goodman scoffed: "Then you've heard more than I have."

And on Thursday, Roseanne, who later blamed her racist tweet on taking sedative Ambien, criticised ABC for leaving Goodman and co-star, Lady Bird actress Laurie Metcalf, jobless.

"I just wish ABC had not thrown two of the greatest actors in the world out with me-Laurie and John. I'm so sick over this-they will never have better character actors on their network," she tweeted.
