The 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' actor is reportedly offered the role of Tom, 'a cop who befriends Sonic and will likely team up to take down the evil Robotnik.'

AceShowbiz - After having a carpenter ant as his ride in "Ant-Man", Paul Rudd may team up with a hedgehog in his next movie. The 49-year-old actor is reportedly eyed for a lead role in a big screen adaptation of SEGA's video game series "Sonic the Hedgehog".

According to The Hashtag Show, the "Ant-Man and the Wasp" star is offered a human role of Tom, who is described as "a cop who befriends Sonic and will likely team up to take down the evil Robotnik." Robotnik a.k.a. Dr. Eggman is a scientist who uses his robotic creations to fight Sonic and his friends. His plans for world domination are consistently foiled by Sonic.

However, after rumors of Rudd's casting emerge, Paramount has denied the actor's possible involvement in the project. The studio claims that Rudd is no longer being considered for the role of Tom.

Rudd joined Marvel Cinematic Universe as Scott Lang a.k.a. Ant-Man in the 2015 solo movie. He reprised the role in "Captain America: Civil War" (2016) and "Ant-Man and the Wasp" which will be released in the U.S. on July 7.

The film is expected to begin shooting this summer in Vancouver, with a budget of $90 million. Jeff Fowler is tapped to direct, marking his theatrical directorial debut. Patrick Casey and Josh Miller ("Transylmania", "12 Deadly Days") are set to write the script, with "Deadpool" helmer Tim Miller on board as producer. While the plot is being kept under wraps, it's safe to assume that the movie will be a mix of live-action and CGI.

SEGA first introduces Sonic in 1991 to rival Nintendo's leading man Mario. The character is usually joined by friends, such as Knuckles, Tails and Shadow the Hedgehog, while running around and collecting rings. An animated series titled "Sonic Boom" featuring the characters is currently airing on Cartoon Network and Boomerang.
