AceShowbiz - Michelle Williams is set to tackle her most challenging role to date in underground abortion drama series "This is Jane".

The actress will star in and produce the project for Amazon Studios.

"Boys Don't Cry"'s Kimberly Peirce has signed on to direct the film, based on the true story of a woman who founded and ran the underground abortion service, Jane, and Laura Kaplan's book "The Story of Jane: The Legendary Underground Feminist Abortion Service".

Jane was run by a group of women who taught themselves how to perform abortions in the late 1960s and early 1970s. They helped more than 11,000 women, according to Deadline.

Williams will play the Jane founder, known as Jenny.
