Following the successful return of the 1990s sitcom, the president calls star Roseanne Barr, who describes the phone call as a 'sweet' gesture from an old friend.

AceShowbiz - Donald Trump rushes to take credit for the success of "Roseanne" revival. The president is showing his support to the revived show, which stars Roseanne Barr, by telephoning the actress and congratulating her for the massive success.

Barr, who plays Trump supporter Roseanne Conner on the comedy, detailed the "sweet" phone in a Thursday, March 29 episode of "Good Morning America". She revealed that POTUS called her on Wednesday night, adding that the phone was like a "sweet" gesture from an old friend.

"They said, 'Hold please for the President of the United States of America' and that was about the most exciting thing ever. It was just very sweet of him to congratulate us," she added.

"We just kind of had a private conversation," she said. "But you know, we talked about a lot of things. He's just happy for me. I've known him for many years and he's done a lot of nice things for me over the years. So, it was just a friendly conversation about work, and you know, television and ratings."

The reboot of the 1990s sitcom indeed drew a large audience following its return after 2 decades. The ABC series, which portrays a working-class family in the Trump era, brought in more than 18 million viewers, making it the most successful comedy launch in four years.

Trump also didn't want to lose the opportunity to embrace the show's success. During a speech in Ohio on Thursday, the president taunted its incredible ratings after its 2-hour premiere on Tuesday, March 27.

"Look at her ratings. Look at her ratings! I got a call from Mark Burnett, he did 'The Apprentice'. He's a great guy. He said, 'Donald, I called just to say hello and to tell you did you see Roseanne's ratings?' They were unbelievable, over 18 million people and it was about us," he said. "The fake news hasn't figured it out yet … and when they do, they'll become much less fake. It may take a while, but it's happening."

"Roseanne" first debuted in 1988. Also starring John Goodman, Sara Gilbert and Sarah Chalke, the show ran until 1997 on ABC.
