A DJ has been killed after part of a stage collapsed during the Atmosphere dance music festival, which took place on Sunday afternoon, December 17 in Esteio, Brazil. Footage of the accident, which saw 30-year-old DJ Kaleb Freitas performing a set during strong winds when the stage collapsed on him, soon surfaced online.

Freitas was immediately rushed to the hospital after suffering head injuries, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Other people were also treated for injuries, though there was no exact number on how many concertgoers were hospitalized.
Sergio Bandoca, one of the people in charge of the event, detailed the accident, saying that it "was madness. The scale of the tragedy could have been far worse. Things were flying all over the place. There was panic."
Commander of Esteio's Fire Brigade, Luciano Machado Morais, stated that the festival "was staged in an open area and the speed and strength of the wind proved too much for the capacity of the metal structure over the stage."
Following the accident, organizers of the event released an official statement which read, "We always cherish for the safety of our public, following all the processes, reports and authorizations requested by the local authorities."
"And our public will keep them informed of all our actions to keep the truth about the events occurred. Anyway, we are desolate," so the statement continued. "We lost a friend and an artist. Our priority is to assist the wounded and their families. We thank the Military Brigade and Fire Brigade for the entire assistance."
This was not the first time a stage collapse caused the death of someone. Back in 2012, Radiohead's drum technician Scott Johnson was killed after a stage's metal scaffolding suddenly collapsed on him. And last month, Johnson's family had requested for an investigation to find out who was responsible for the collapse.
