Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) is just a teenager who finds salvation in the OASIS until he joins a fierce competition that drags him into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt.

AceShowbiz - From Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg comes "Ready Player One", an upcoming sci-fi movie based on a 2011 novel of the same name by Ernest Cline which has become a worldwide phenomenon. The first trailer for the film has now landed online, introducing its main character Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan, "X-Men: Apocalypse") and the OASIS, a virtual reality which will be the main set of the story.

The trailer centers on Wade, a teenager who finds solace in the OASIS. When the creator of the OASIS, the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance), dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world.

Wade decides to join the contest and surprises everyone as he becomes a contestant to reckon with. As the battle gets fiercer, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

Judging from the trailer, the movie offers amazing visuals that mix dystopian Columbus, Ohio, circa 2045 and the CGI-generated virtual world a la video games. The book is full with pop culture references and the trailer offers a variety of different nods to icons of the 1980s and '90s accordingly.

The movie also stars Olivia Cooke ("Me & Earl & the Dying Girl", "Bates Motel"), Ben Mendelsohn ("Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"), T.J. Miller ("Deadpool", "Silicon Valley") and Simon Pegg (the "Star Trek" movies, the "Mission: Impossible" movies) among others.

Spielberg directed the film from a screenplay by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline. The film was produced by Donald De Line, Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Dan Farah, with Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Chris DeFaria and Bruce Berman serving as executive producers.

Warner Bros. Pictures schedules the film for release on March 30, 2018 in the United States.
