The Duffer Brothers on 'Stranger Things' Season 3: It Will Be Weirder and More Character-Driven
TV

The new season will see the characters having 'an interesting journey to go on' as Ross and Matt Duffer tease that it will be 'something almost weirdly more intimate.'

AceShowbiz - By now, you probably have finished watching "Stranger Things" season 2. And now, it's time to talk about the next season of the Netflix hit series. Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer have dropped some hints about what to expect from season 3, which is still in early development.

"I love the early days of seasons, because you are filled with all of these possibilities," Ross tells IndieWire. "We are having a lot of fun just bouncing around cool ideas."

The Duffer bros hint that the third season will put more focus on character development, unlike the sophomore season which saw the creators expanding the show's mythology. "It's not necessarily going to be bigger in scale. What I am really excited about is giving these characters an interesting journey to go on," Matt explains. The new season, which hasn't been greenlit by the streaming giant, is also said to be "something almost weirdly more intimate."

When thinking about "Stranger Things", it can't be separated from the fact that its young actors are going through adolescence. In fact, the Duffers are seeing it as a really good change for the show and embracing it positively. Matt says that adolescence "is a very dramatic part of your life, and drama is good!" He adds, "So I think it's good it forces the show to evolve."

The show creators further reveal that they're approaching the sci-fi series like a "nine-hour movie" instead of an episodic series. "What's fun to me is that we can make movies but we are no longer restricted by this two-hour timeframe. It gives us this bigger canvas to paint on. It opens up all sorts of new storytelling possibilities," Matt shares.

While season 3 reportedly will arrive sometime in late 2018, the sophomore season of "Stranger Things" is now available on Netflix.
