AceShowbiz - Not holding back! Mariah Carey's billionaire ex-fiance finally broke silence on his 2016 split with the global pop star. James Packer got candid in a recent interview with Weekend Australia magazine (via Daily Mail), saying dating the "Hero" singer was a "mistake."
"I was at a low point in my personal life," James opened up in the interview published on Friday, October 20. "She was kind, exciting and fun. Mariah is a woman of substance. But it was a mistake for her and a mistake for me."
The Australian billionaire basically shared that he was stressed out about and other personal matter when he met Mariah. However, the 50-year-old didn't explain why he and Mariah decided to go separate ways.
The 47-year-old pop diva and James began dating in 2015 but split in October 2016, calling off their nine-month engagement. Rumor had it, they got into an argument aboard a yacht while they were vacationing in Greece. The wedding plans were reportedly already underway at that time.
As they had an ugly breakup, the singer's rep previously revealed that the pair hadn't seen each other since the fight. "Mariah was totally blindsided by James. She read the news in Woman's Day Australia that said he dumped her," an insider said to Us Weekly. "Mariah knew they were having problems, but all relationships have issues--it wasn't the kind of thing where she thought she'd read in the paper that she got dumped. She was devastated; she was shocked."
While things took an ugly turn with Mariah, James said during the interview that it wasn't the case with his two ex-wives. "I get on exceptionally well with my two ex-wives," he said. "It is my biggest regret that I let my marriage to Erica fail. It is what it is, and she is doing an incredible job with the kids and we are in a great place," he spoke of Erica Packer, with whom he shares three children, nine-year-old Indigo, five-year-old Emmanuelle and seven-year-old Jackson.
