AceShowbiz - Mychael Knight, a fashion designer and finalist in season 3 of Lifetime's "Project Runway", passed away on Tuesday morning, October 17 in a Georgia hospital. He was 39.
According to TMZ, the fashion designer, who previously revealed he had been battling Irritable Bowel Syndrome, died after recently checking into the hospital. Obvious mag reported that Knight died at 7:25 A.M. in Atlanta, GA surrounded by his loving family and friends.
"We are still processing the untimely death of our son, brother, friend, and uncle," his family said in an official statement. "Mychael meant everything to us and we loved him dearly. He was generous and so full of life. This is how we choose to remember his legacy."
Following the disheartening news, Lifetime released a statement, paying a tribute to Knight. "We are saddened to hear about the passing of a member of the Project Runway family, designer Mychael Knight. It's a loss of a great talent and we wish his family peace and solace during this difficult time."
Andy Cohen, who met Knight during his appearance on "Project Runway" (previously aired on Bravo), took to his Twitter account to share his words of condolence. "I am so sad to hear about Mychael Knight. When he appeared on #ProjectRunway he was the sweetest guy, full of life, ambition & talent. #rip," he wrote.
While the cause of Knight's death has not been announced, Knight revealed on a Facebook post that he suffered from IBS, which had "taken a toll on my health…badly" this year. "In short, IBS is a gastor-intestinal disorder in which the food I ear, my body doesn't absorbed (malabsorption) the nutrients from what I eat. In addition, b/c I have a 'leaky gut,' openings in my intestines, toxins from that food leak into my bloodstream, which can cause Autoimmune diseases (Diabetes, Lupus, Celiac Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis)," he went on writing in the now-deleted post.
Born in Germany on April 11, 1978, Knight studied Apparel Design and Merchandising at Georgia Southern University and graduated in 2001, the same year he got an internship at Wilbourn Exclusive. He later work as a stylist in the music industry in 2002, before auditioning for the second season of "Project Runway" in 2005 but didn't make the cut. He tried again in the following year for its season 3, in which he managed to nab the fourth place and won Fan Favorite award of the season.
After "Project Runway", Knight launched his own label, Mychael Knight, and lent his talent to design custom tees for Starbucks. He kept on launching collections, including female and male lingerie label Kitty and Dick, unisex fragrance named MajK in 2008 and a Fall/Winter line in 2010. His recent one was Spring/Summer 2018 line.
