AceShowbiz - Facing the tough competition in the rapidly growing music industry in South Korea is not easy, but Bangtan Boys managed to survive the short lifespan that some newcomers often suffered when they debuted in 2013. The boyband quickly rose to fame with their first album "2 Cool 4 Skool", for which they won several New Artist of the Year awards, including at the 2013 Melon Music Awards and Golden Disc Awards, as well as the 2014 Seoul Music Awards.
They released their first studio album "Dark & Wild" in 2014 and followed it up with several EPs, including 2015's "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 2", which entered the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart at No. 171. Their 2016 compilation album "The Most Beautiful Moment In Life: Young Forever" performed even better, peaking at No. 107 on the chart.
But that's just the beginning of their international accomplishments. Releasing their second full-length studio album "Wings" in 2016, they landed at No. 62 on the Billboard 200 chart. With their growing popularity, they aimed higher with their latest effort, an EP titled "Love Yourself 'Her' ", which became their first album to have an American distribution.
It was a smart move as the album has peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200, becoming the first K-Pop effort to hit the top 10 on the albums chart. The album's track "DNA" has also set a new record on Billboard Hot 100 by landing at No. 67 earlier this month, surpassing Wonder Girls' "Nobody" which reached No. 76 in 2009.
To further solidify their status as a global superstar, the seven-piece group was awarded the Top Social Artist title at the Billboard Music Awards earlier this year. Known for their large social media presence, they recently also became the most followed Korean act on Twitter, beating out popular rapper G-Dragon of Big Bang.
Their achievements have led the group to be ranked #5 on Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list for 2017. Earlier this year, in June, the band was also named one of the 25 most influential people on the internet.
