First-Look Pic: Hugh Jackman Channels Presidential Hopeful Gary Hart in 'The Front Runner'

The actor himself has taken to social media to share a photo from the first day of principal photography for the biopic, which is described as political comedy by director Jason Reitman.

AceShowbiz - Hugh Jackman's new movie "The Front Runner" has begun filming in Georgia. The Australian actor has taken to his Twitter account to share a photo from the first day of principal photography for the political comedy which is directed by Jason Reitman.

Jackman stars as Presidential hopeful Gary Hart in the film. The 48-year-old actor can be seen in the first-look photo channeling the former U.S. Senator from Colorado who is most famous for his two bids for the presidency in 1984 and 1988. Jackman's Hart seems to be engaged in a debate in front of a crowd.

Based on Matt Bai's 2014 book "All the Truth Is Out: The Week Politics Went Tabloid", "The Front Runner" tracks the rise of Hart from his days as a Colorado senator to his run for the Democratic nomination in 1988 when he was positioned as the inspiring Kennedy-style candidate.

The Democratic presidential candidate was considered the frontrunner during the campaign, far ahead of eventual nomination Mike Dukakis. However, his promising campaign was derailed when he became embroiled in an extramarital affair.

Hart famously challenged the media to "follow me around. I don't care. I'm serious. If anybody wants to put a tail on me, go ahead. They'll be very bored." The tabloids accepted the challenge, and photographs of Hart with a woman named Donna Rice aboard a yacht forced him to withdraw in disgrace.

Reitman is directing the film from a script he co-wrote with Bai and former Hillary Clinton spokesman Jay Carson. The helmer has described the film as a comedy, but one with bittersweet undertones. No release date has been set just yet for the film which is being produced independently by Aaron Gilbert, Helen Estabrook and Reitman through Gilbert's production company Bron Studios.

Co-starring Jackman in the film are Vera Farmiga, J.K. Simmons, Sara Paxton, Spencer Garrett, Kevin Pollak, Mark O'Brien, Kaitlyn Dever, Ari Graynor, Molly Ephraim, Mike Judge and Toby Huss among others.
