The upcoming revival will pretend that Dan's death in season 8 finale back in 1997 never happened, says ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey.

AceShowbiz - Dan is alive and is back for ABC's "Roseanne" reboot. People were curious as to how the show will bring back John Goodman's character after the actor was announced as part of the revival's cast, considering that Dan died in season 8 finale.

The mystery is now solved with ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey revealing Dan's fate at the Television Critics Association panel on Sunday, August 6. "I can confirm that Dan is still alive," Dungey said, adding, "I wouldn't say that it will ignore the events of the series finale, but I can confirm that Dan is very much alive."

The "Roseanne" series finale revealed that Dan had actually died after he had a heart attack in the last season finale and that the entire season 9 was actually about how Roseanne coped with the death of her husband.

While Dungey wouldn't say whether the show would re-frame other factors in the season 9 finale, she revealed that Johnny Galecki might return for the revival. "Those conversations are still in progress," she said, adding that Roseanne Barr's "very excited about the show and she is going to be on the show."

As for whether the show would be tonally similar to the previous nine seasons, Dungey said, "It is honest, it is irreverent at times, and it’s also really, really funny." She added, "We are addressing issues like foreclosure; we're addressing how difficult it is for people to get medical insurance; we're talking about topics in a bigger broader way, and we're not necessarily talking about the occupants of the White House."
