In addition, MTV president Chris McCarthy revealed that the network's iconic Moon Man trophy will now be known as the Moon Person.

AceShowbiz - After ending its long run almost a decade ago, "TRL" a.k.a. "Total Request Live" will be returning to the small screen. MTV announces that it will recreate the popular music video countdown show from the '90s and '00s and will debut the revamped version of the series in October.

The show, where viewers will vote for the top music videos of the day, will broadcast from a studio in Times Square. "If we're going to come back and reinvent MTV, the studio is a given," MTV president Chris McCarthy tells The New York Times. "It is the centerpiece."

Like its predecessor, the revived hour-long series will air daily. As host Carson Daly won't reprise his hosting duty, the new series will feature five VJs hosting alongside Chicago radio host Erik Zachary and rapper and comedian DC Young Fly.

The original series premiered in 1997 before getting canceled in November 2008. It became a hot spot for stars, including Britney Spears, Destiny's Child, Backstreet Boys, Christina Aguilera, Eminem and Korn among others.

In addition, McCharthy reveals that the network's iconic Moon Man trophy will now be known as the Moon Person. "It could be a man, it could be a woman, it could be transgender, it could be nonconformist," McCarthy shares. It follows the network's previous decision to create gender-neutral categories at both the MTV Movie & TV Awards and MTV Video Music Awards.
