The conversation between Peter Capaldi's 12th Doctor and his nemesis Master in the finale seemingly confirms that a female Doctor is coming.

AceShowbiz - The 12th Doctor Peter Capaldi bid farewell to his companion Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie) and "Doctor Who" fans in season 10 finale, which aired on Saturday, July 1, as he exited the show. Fans are now wondering who will be the 13th Doctor and whether it will be a female doctor just like the rumors. Season 10 finale seemingly offers an answer to the big questions.

[SPOILER ALERT!] Towards the end of the episode, Bill was seen stepping forward to fight some baddies expected to emerge of a black hole. The Doctor and his nemesis Master watched from the side, before Master asked, "Will the future be all girl?" The Doctor could be heard answering, "We can only hope," making the entire fandom explode as it seemed like a female Doctor was confirmed.

Departing showrunner Steve Moffat, who shepherded the show from 2010, previously also stated that the Doctor could regenerate into a woman. The possibility was strengthened by the fact that the Master could be regenerated into Missy, a female Master.

BBC always makes sure that the detail of the next Doctor is kept under wraps, at least until "Doctor Who" Christmas special comes closer. However, former showrunner Russel T. Davies revealed that an actor has been tapped to play the role. As for the Doctor's new companion, it remains to be seen whether Bill will join the 13th Doctor in the upcoming season 11.

Meanwhile, the network revealed on official "Doctor Who" Twitter account that the yet-untitled Christmas special would be "a multi-Doctor story featuring the current Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and the First Doctor (David Bradley)!" The premiere date for the special hasn't been announced.
