"Downtown Abbey" came to an end two years ago, but a movie version of the historical period drama show is in the works. A high-level executive is suggesting that production on the film could begin in 2018.

"There's a movie in the works. It's been in the works for some time," President of NBCUniversal international studios, Michael Edelstein, told the Associated Press at the opening of "Downton Abbey: The Exhibition" in Singapore on Wednesday, June 21, "We are working on getting the script right and then we've got to figure out how to get the 20 cast together."

The source added, "Because as you know, people go on and do other things. But we're hopeful to make a movie sometime next year."

Sophie McShera, who played Daisy, told the AP, "Oh, well, you've got confirmation before us. We have no idea if that's happening. But we would all love to be part of the film if it was to happen, for sure."

"Well, tell my agent, because we're still wanting to know," Laura Carmichael, who played Lady Edith, added, "We're hoping that will happen soon."
