Following the announcement of the premiere date, CBS has released a new sneak peek of "Star Trek: Discovery". Making its way out via Entertainment Weekly, the photo gives the first look at Jason Isaacs as Gabriel Lorca, "a steely Federation Starship Captain who's considered a brilliant military tactician."

Wearing a blue uniform, Lorca sits in the captain's chair of the U.S.S Discovery. The picture offers a small hint of the ship's main bridge, which hasn't been fully revealed yet.

The lead star of the series is not the captain, though. "Star Trek: Discovery" will center on Sonequa Martin-Green's First Officer Michael Burnham. It was recently revealed that she's the first human to attend the Vulcan Learning Center as a child and then the Vulcan Science Academy as a young woman. She has a close relationship with Sarek (James Frain), the father of Spock.

"I'm the first officer on the U.S.S. Shenzhou that is captained by Captain Philippa Georgiou, who is played by the amazing Michelle Yeoh," she told EW. "I have an inner war and it's a journey of self discovery and finding out what it means to be alive, to be human, to be a Starfleet officer, what it means to be a hero."

Also joining the cast are Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, Chris Obi as the Klingon T'Kuvma, Maulik Pancholy as the titular ship's doctor, and Rainn Wilson as the hapless Harry Mudd from the original TV show.

The show will debut through a special broadcast premiere on Sunday, September 24 at 8.30 P.M. on CBS, before moving to its home on CBS All Access.
