Benedict Cumberbatch is in talks to star in "The Man in the Rockefeller Suit" for Fox Searchlight Pictures. Should the deal be closed, Cumberbatch will play real-life con artist Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter.
According to Deadline, Gerhartsreiter is "an imposter who conned his way into various jobs on Wall Street-as well as a marriage-posing as a member of the Rockefeller family. After achieving a life in rarefied social circles, his past finally catches up with him and he fears losing custody of his only daughter."
David Bar Katz will write the adapted screenplay based on Mark Seal's book of the same name, while Donald De Line produces. There hasn't been any director attached to the project and production date hasn't been set yet.
Cumberbatch is no stranger to playing characters based on real people. He portrayed mathematician Alan Turing in 2014's "The Imitation Game", which earned him an Oscar nomination. The "Doctor Strange" actor will also portray Thomas Edison in Weinstein Company's upcoming "The Current War".
Another Cumberbatch's movie gig includes "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", in which he will voice the titular character. The actor will reprise his role as Doctor Strange in upcoming Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Avengers: Infinity War".
