The new ballad has special meaning for the singer because his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn named the song as her favorite track nearly two years ago.

AceShowbiz - Ed Sheeran slows things down on his new song "How Would You Feel (Paean)" off his upcoming third album "Divide (division sign)". The song was released on Friday, February 17 to celebrate his 26th birthday.

Unlike his previous two singles, "Shape of You" and "Castle on the Hill", Ed opts for acoustic guitar and piano for his new ballad. He seemingly serenades his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn, singing, "How would you feel/ If I told you I loved you/ It's just something that I want to do I'm taking my time, spending my life."

"How Would You Feel (Paean)" has special meaning for Ed as he told Ryan Seacrest in a recent interview. He said that Cherry named the song as her favorite track nearly two years ago so he decided to record it for his upcoming album.

"I think when the album is out, people will just go for the singles," he said. "So the song isn't a single, but I want to put it out because I want loads of people to hear it." He added, "I said to my girlfriend, 'What's your favorite song on the album?' and she said, 'You forgot this existed and I've got it in my email because I'm the only one you sent it to.' "

Ed made it clear that the song was not a single as he wrote on Twitter, " 'How Would You Feel (Paean)' comes out tomorrow at midnight." He added, "Wherever you are in the world, its not the next single, but is one of my favzzzzz."

In other news, the British singer was spotted filming "Carpool Karaoke" with James Corden in Los Angeles. The two can be seen driving slowly in a clip shared by fans on Twitter. Earlier this year, Ed confirmed that he would be joining James for a "Carpool Karaoke" and promised to put on something "really awkward and dirty like Biggie's song 'Big Booty H**s'."
