The 33-year-old singer reveals that the track is inspired by her divorce with ex-husband Teddy Landau and her new relationship.

AceShowbiz - Michelle Branch finally returns to the music scene as she releases a music video for "Hopeless Romantic" on VEVO. Michelle will also release a solo album, which is also titled "Hopeless Romantic", this year. The album will mark Michelle's first solo comeback in 15 years.

The video begins with Michelle entering a car as she sings softly, almost like whispers. Michelle later cries her heart out under the pouring rain. She's completely drenched while singing, "Cause I'm a hopeless romantic/ When I should run for my life/ Honey, I don't understand it/ Cause it's magic, but it's tragic/ I know you're gonna eat me alive."

Michelle explained the meaning behind the "shadowy, sultry clip fitting of the tune" in an interview with EW. "The song is about the push and pull of a romantic relationship," she explained. "There's always a kind of fear when you're entering a relationship with someone; of, 'Where will this go? Will I get hurt?' " she added.

Michelle shared some details about the track, saying her divorce with Teddy Landau and her new relationship with The Black Keys' drummer Patrick Carney inspired the new track and album. "The album runs the gamut from break-up songs to tracks about finding love. So it seemed like the perfect [album] title from the moment we recorded it. That's been the story-arc of the last three years of my life," she said, before adding, "And I am a hopeless romantic!"

During the interview, Michelle also talked about her discomfort of being in front of the camera again. So for her new music video, she chose her own friend, photographer Brian Higbee, as the director. "His stuff always skews a little bit darker," she shared. "And I wanted this to be darker. I haven't had a video out in so long, so I wanted to push the envelope in that sense, and not have something that was 'cheery' or what people expect from me."

Michelle Branch's new album "Hopeless Romantic" will be released on April 7 via Verve Records and is currently available for pre-order at Amazon, iTunes and pre-save at Spotify.
