Series executive producer John Stephen teased that the Joker's girlfriend might come later in season 3.

AceShowbiz - Fans might be excited to see Jerome's return on "Gotham" season 3, but there's more than that. Harley Quinn is coming to Gotham City sooner than expected. Series executive producer John Stephen revealed that the Joker gal pal might come later this season.

"We might see [her] in episode 22," said the executive producer during the TCA winter press tour. "We're building that as a launching point of next year. It's either going to be in 401 or 322," he added. "Most likely it'll be in 322 to tease."

John also said, "The Harley Quinn of it all is a bit more of a sticky wicket but it's one we've already thought about for the character. We don't want to give much away, but it will definitely be someone connected to the Joker cult world that we have set up." He went on gushing, "It's going to be crazy."

Talking about who's going to be Harley, executive producer Ken Woodruff said that "Gotham" fans had already seen Harley in past episodes, they just didn't notice it was her. "You may have already seen Harley as a person that you thought you had met and known for a long time. So we always reserve the right to sort of do that as well," said Ken.

Fans have been speculating about who the character might be. Most of them believe that Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) is a potential Harley. Supporting the theory is a scene in an early episode of "Gotham", in which a gangster came in to threaten Barbara's new club The Sirens, which she co-owns with Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas). Instead of feeling frightened, Barbara gave a sinister laugh before beating him up.

The crazy reaction of Barbara is believed as a reminiscent of Harley Quinn's equally crazy persona. Her temporary partnership with Jerome back in season 2 also means that there's a huge possibility that she will be the Harley on the "Batman" prequel series.

"Gotham" season 3 returns on Monday, January 23 at 8 P.M. ET on FOX.
