Ed Sheeran has become the first artist in history to take the top two chart positions with his brand new songs. His brand new singles "Castle on the Hill" and "Shape of You", from his upcoming album "Divide (division sign)" entered the U.K. singles chart at number one and number two on January 13.

"I'm incredibly chuffed that they've gone straight in at Number One and Two today (January 13)," Ed said, "Both tracks mean a huge amount to me so it really is amazing to see them go to the top of the chart together on the first week. I can't wait for everyone to hear the rest of the album in March."

Both "Castle on the Hill" and "Shape of You" also smashed the existing Spotify record for one-day streams, previously held by One Direction's song "Drag Me Down". "Shape of You" pulled in 6,868,642 streams, while "Castle on the Hill" pulled in 6,168,395 streams in the 24 hours after its release.

As Ed earned his first No. 1 album on Billboard 200 with his second studio album "X" in 2014, "Divide" is expected to debut at No. 1 after it hit the stores on March 3.
