Lionsgate Is Open for More 'Twilight' Sequels

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairman Patrick Wachsberger says more 'Twilight' films is possible if Stephenie Meyer wants to write a new story related to Bella and Edward.
Will there be a new "Twilight" movie? Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairman Patrick Wachsberger says it's possible. Speaking to Screen Daily, the studio exec doesn't rule out making more films about the beloved fictional couple Bella Swan and Edward Cullen if there's a new story to tell.

"It's a possibility," the L.A.-based Frenchman says. "Not a certainty but it's a possibility. It's about Stephenie [the 'Twilight Saga' book author Stephenie Meyer]. If she wants to tell a story related to those characters we're here for her."

The "Twilight" movie series became a worldwide phenomenon after the first film was released in 2008. Wachsberger recalls the casting of Robert Pattinson, "Robert Pattinson only came in three weeks before shoot. An assistant, who has subsequently become a very successful executive, said, 'There's this guy called Rob Pattinson from the fourth 'Harry Potter...' I said, 'Well, let's fly him in from London.' "

He continues, "He did his screentest and he got the job. I'm not going to tell you how little the salary was on the first one but of course lawyers were there to renegotiate deals following its success."

Pattinson's on-screen chemistry with female lead Kristen Stewart blossomed into a real-life romance, though their relationship ended in 2014.
